It's the first Friday of Lent. What are you eating?
How about some KFC? Kentucky Fish for Catholics that is.
KFC is offering a new product just for Lent: the Fish Snacker Sandwich. And the company has also asked Pope Benedict XVI to bless the fish sandwich. "We believe that the new sandwich could make it easier and more affordable for Catholics to observe the tenets of their faith," KFC President Greg Dedrick wrote in a letter to the pope, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. The pope has not responded yet, but is expected to soon.
My favorite Lent story, from a priest who once taught at Quigley Prep Seminary in Chicago: On Ash Wednesday, a student went to McDonald's for lunch and order two Quarter Pounders. The cashier, however, brought him two Filet-O-Fishs. When the student complained, she simply pointed to the cross of ash on his forward and said, "You're Catholic, aren't you?"
