A Call to Be Witnesses and Messengers of the Joy of the Gospel: Diaconate Ordinations in Indonesia

Kupang, Indonesia. On October 19, 2019, Bishop Petrus Turang of the Archdiocese of Kupang ordained six young Claretian Missionaries to deaconate at Claret open hall in Seminari Hati Maria Kupang, Indonesia. Two candidates from the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary and one candidate from the Archdiocese of Kupang were also ordained together with them.

Those were ordained were Schs. Methodius Manek, Yeremias Nardin, Agustinus Harun Weruin, Robertus Payong Pati, Apolinaris Vincent Tarut, Patrisius Weka Bakior, CMFF; Bernardus Robertus Ujan from the Archdiocese of Kupang, Bernardus Uskono, MSSCC, and Marsianus Maximus Leu, MSSCC.

This ordination coincided with the inauguration of the new open hall of the Seminari Hati Maria in Kupang which was co-financied by the General Government and the Diozesanstelle Weltkirche-Weltmission of Köln (Germany). The celebration was attended by hundreds of people including the families of the ordinands and the Claretian Missionaries.

In his homily, Bishop Petrus encouraged and invited the deacons to be truly witnesses and messengers of the Joy of the Gospel. At the heart of this calling is the service, imitating the life of the Master.

“It is your main task and responsibility to proclaim the Word of God, the message of Joy, and therefore you have to prepare yourselves well before delivering this joyful message,” said the Bishop.
