Assualt on the Mission of Soubre, Ivory Coast

Aug 28, 2012 | Ivory Coast

Soubre, Ivory Coast. On the evening of August 13th, the Feast of our Blessed Martyrs of Barbastro, our mission of Soubre on the Ivory Coast was assaulted for the third time in one year. The house attached to the chapel was totally sacked. The perpetrators were armed and unknown, but it is known that came from rebel groups or members of the police force which was dissolved after the elections were celebrated in this country. The Prefecture of the city thought that that it was unnecessary to offer protection to the mission during these months and for two weeks the military had withdrawn its protection.

The two Claretian Missionaries, Fr. Zbigniew ?ás and Brother Jan M??yk, who were staffing the mission at the time, suffered no personal injuries, but were very affected by what happened.
