Becoming ever more acquainted with St. Anthony Mary Claret

Aug 29, 2022 | Ecclesiastical News, General Curia, St. Anthony Mary Claret

Rome, Italy. On August 28, 2022, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez, Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of San Cristóbal de la Habana, visited the General Curia of the Claretian Missionaries in Rome and shared a meal with the community. He was accompanied by Don Antonio Señas, a great acquaintance of the Claretian Missionaries. Cardinal Aquilino Bocos, CMF, and Fr. General, Mathew Vattamattam, CMF, among others, accompanied him during lunch.

He was genuinely interested to know the Curia, the Museum-Chapel, and to hold in his hands the original copy of the “Autobiography” of Father Claret. At the end of the visit, he was given as a special gift the book of Claret “Las Delicias del Campo“, a book that he had wanted to have for years since he was in Camagüey, of whose diocese he was formerly bishop. He was very cordially grateful for the warm welcome, and the Curia community was able to enjoy a Claretian moment with a person so closely linked to the Congregation and perfectly acquainted with the work and the people of the Claretians in Cuba.

Saint Anthony Mary Claret was the Archbishop of Cuba from 1849 to 1859.
