Claretian Diaconal Ordinations in Russia and Macau: Commitment and Service in the Church

Mar 23, 2023 | Ordinations, East Asia, Santiago

Two Claretians have been ordained deacons, respectively, in Russia and Macau. Both celebrations have taken place surrounded and accompanied by the community of the faithful where they are currently carrying out their mission.

In a display of vitality and growth of the Church, two young Claretians were ordained as deacons in separate ceremonies in Moscow, Russia, and Macau. Denís Malov and Ian Rio Vicente M. Dacayanan, CMFF, took a significant step toward the priesthood by receiving the holy orders.

On March 19, 2023, coinciding with the Feast of St. Joseph, Denís Malov, CMF, was ordained as a deacon in the Diocese of the Mother of God in Moscow by Auxiliary Bishop Msgr. Nicolai Gennadevich Dubinin, O.F.M. Deacon Dennis expressed his desire to be a “servant of joy” and a witness to Christ’s love. The ceremony, though lengthy, was well-received by the community and attended by the Claretian community of St. Petersburg. During his homily, Monsignor Dubinin highlighted the role of the deacon in the Church and asked the faithful to continue praying for the newly ordained.

On the other hand, on March 18, 2023, Ian Rio Vicente M. Dacayanan, CMF, was ordained as a Deacon in Macau by bishop of its diocese, Msgr. Stephen Lee Bun Sang. The now-ordained Deacon Ian is a citizen of Macau but was born in the Philippines. He worked at Claretian Publications for a decade before resuming his studies for the priesthood. The ordination celebration was concelebrated by the Major Superior of the Independent Delegation of East Asia, the Provincial Superior of the Province Fr. Rhoel Gallardo (Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, Myanmar), and other priests, including Claretians from Macau and Hong Kong. The ceremony was emotional and counted the participation of various religious communities.

Diaconate in the Church

The diaconate in the Church holds great significance. Being a deacon involves a commitment to serving the community, preaching the Word of God, and assisting in celebrating the sacraments. Deacons are called to serve with humility and dedication, following the example of Christ, who came to serve and not to be served.

These diaconal ordinations demonstrate the vitality and commitment of young Claretians in the Church. As deacons, Deacons Malov and Dacayanan, CMFF, are closer to the priesthood and will continue their work in service to the Church and their communities.
