Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. Due to the lockdown in Sri Lanka to contain the spread of COVID-19, people find it difficult to get their daily needs met. The situation has badly affected the families who depend on daily wages.

In response to the crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, St Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation in Sri Lanka, together with their friends and mission partners, organized a relief operation through VAROD at Cheddikulam area in Vavuniya. One hundred seventy-five low-income families who depend on daily wages received dry food items from VAROD.

Likewise, VAROD printed some banners to raise awareness of the pandemic and what the people should do to avoid contamination and stay safe.

VAROD friends-Canada sponsored another relief operation. Two hundred fifty families at the Thunukai area, Mullaithivu, received relief items.

With the support of VAROD friends-Germany, another two hundred families in Mullaithivu also received relief goods.

Meanwhile, in Aligamby, four hundred ten families badly affected by the curfew received dry rations from the Claretian Missionaries. Further support organized through the government agent.
