Salamanca, Spain. The faculties of Theology from Spain and Portugal have organized in Salamanca an International Congress to commemorate the fifty years since the opening of the Second Vatican Council, “A Sure Compass for the Ecclesial Walk of the Twenty-First Century”.

Few theological developments have the unanimous support such as this, in which around four hundred people coming from numerous local churches in the entire Iberian Peninsula have participated for so many days.

Among the speakers have been Cardinal Walter Kasper and Antonio M. Rouco Varela, those in charge of various Vatican Congregations, such as Bishop Luis Ladaria, Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and J. L. Brugués, Secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education; internationally renowned theologians such as Salvador Pie i Ninot or Santiago del Cura, and Fr. Xabier Larrañaga, CMF, superior of the”Claretianum” and professor at the Institute of Consecrated Life in Rome, who enlightened the participants on the postconciliar evolution of theology on the consecrated life.

The Congress, closed by the Apostolic Nuncio of Spain, concluded with a final declaration which reaffirmed the relevance of the teachings of the Council and the desire to serve the new evangelization as encouraged by the last Synod.
