Date Change for the Beatification of the “Martyrs of the XX Century in Spain”

Madrid, Spain. The Beatification of the “Martyrs of the XX Century in Spain” which will take place in Tarragona has had a date change: from the 27th of October to October 13, 2013 at 12:00 noon.

The decision, made by the organizing committee was communicated by the Information Office of the Episcopal Conference of Spanish Bishops on March 1, 2013.

Among the numerous Martyrs who will be beatified for this occasion are Fr. José María Ruiz, CMF and his 15 Companions “Martyrs of Fernán Caballero” as well as the 6 “Claretian Martyrs of Tarragona”.

The Pastoral Plan of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) includes as one of the major actions, registered in the Year of the Faith, the beatification of Martyrs of the Twentieth Century in Spain. In the Plan are remembered the Words of Pope Benedict XVI when, precisely upon convening the Year of the Faith, pointed out that “by faith, the martyrs gave their lives as a testimony to the truth of the Gospel, and had been transformed and made capable of reaching the greatest gift of love with the forgiveness of their persecutors”.
