Discernment and Accompaniment in the Formation

Mar 13, 2019 | Formation, Indonesia - Timor Leste

Kupang, Indonesia. Discernment and accompaniment cannot be separated from the whole process of discipleship’s narrative. In the context of formation, discernment and accompaniment are essential points in the whole project and process of ‘sequela Christi.’ In the light of this theme the formators from all formation centers of Independent Delegation of Indonesia-Timor Leste gathered together for a study week from March 11-16, 2019 in Claretian House, Kupang.

In his welcome remarks, Fr. Nikolaus Ilan, CMF, Prefect of Formation of the Delegation, thanked the formators for their availability in this pivotal mission to accompany the young missionaries in their respective formation centers. He also invited the participants to take the advantage from this encounter and group study with its different topics in accompanying the formandi to listen and discern well their own stories.

In this encounter, the formators also had a chance to discuss and dialogue with the members of the Delegation Council: Fr. Yohanes M.V. Lusi Emi, CMF (Major Superior), Fr. Emanuel Lelo Talok, CMF (Vicar and Consultor), and Fr. Frederikus Jampur, CMF (Consultor). Their presence and insight widened the horizon of formators in responding to the different issues that emerge in the area of formation within the context of the Delegation. Eventually, discernment and accompaniment is a lifelong process. Discernment, in the words of J. Henry Nouwen is nothing more than, reading the signs of the times.
