FATIMA: Encounter of the General Government with the Major Superiors of Europe (II)

Nov 1, 2012 | Fatima, General Government, Portugal

Fátima, Portugal. In an atmosphere of reflection and discussion at the Encounter, Father Miguel A. Velasco, General Prefect of Apostolate, shared the characteristics that are the basis of all our missionary action (community life and shared mission), and presented, on the part of the General Government, the priorities that have emerged from the initial sharing.

They are:

1) Consolidate missionary outreach (helping churches in need of evangelization, attending to the “remote” ones, and making us present in the dialog between faith and culture;
2) Youth Ministry (educational centers, youth centers, university ministry);
3) Actions of Solidarity (marginated, immigrants, procures, Proclade, and JPIC);
4) Formation of Evangelizers (centers or teams of laity formation, Institutes of theology of religious life); and
5) Claretian places (with a function “ad intra” the Congregation and others “ad extra”, in collaboration with the CESC team).

The groups, after deliberation, have recognized that the priorities presented reflected the threats and challenges indicated by the Major Organisms and deliberated upon these days, although it has clarified some expressions.

At another time during their the work, some questions were proposed for deliberation in groups: what activities have to be maintained because they allow us to better respond to the specified priorities; what new activities might be created, what are the implications that these priorities and activities might have, and in what places in Europe we should we consider maintaining.
