Feast of Fr. Claret and the Centenary of the “Banchi Vecchi” House

Roma. On October 24, 2012 the Claretian Family in Rome came together to celebrate the feast of St. Anthony Mary Claret. The place of the fraternal encounter was the Church of Santa Lucia on “Bancho Vecchi” Street where the Congregation is celebrating 100 years of its presence there.

Participating were some 50 Claretians, a numerous group of Claretian Missionary Sisters (RMI), and Missionary Sisters of St. Anthony Mary Claret (MSAMC), as well as various friends and collaborators in the mission. Among others attending were four bishops present in Rome for the XIII General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops: Mons. Juan José Pineda, CMF, Bishop of Tegucgalpa (Honduras), Mons. Juan de la Caridad García R.,, Bishop of Camagüey (Cuba), and Mons. Virginio Domingo Bressanelli, SCI, Bishop of Neuquén (Argentina), and Mons. Juan Nsué Edjang Mayé, Bishop of Ebebiyín (Equatorial Guinea).

The feast of our Father Founder marked the beginning of the Centenary of the Claretian presence in this place, current headquarters of the Independent Delegation of Italy. On this occasion, Fr. Vicente Sanz, CMF gave a presentation on the first years of the rich history of this house which was once The General Curia, international student house, headquarters of distinct renowned apostolates, and that which gave birth to the current Roman communities of the “Claretianum”, the “Juridicum”, and “Parioli”.

After the conference, Fr. Josep Abella, our Superior General, presided at the Eucharist at which Fr. Franco Incampo, CMF, Major Superior, gave the welcome and summarized the occasions for the upcoming jubilee celebrations.

The event concluded with a time of fraternal sharing.
