Fr. Artur Attends 51st Session of the Commission on Population and Development at the UN

New York City, USA. From April 8 to 15, General Prefect of Apostolate and President of the Board of Proclade Internazionale, Fr. Artur Teixeira CMF, attended the 51st session of the Commission on Population and Development entitled “Sustainable cities, human mobility and international migration” at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Un Visit 2018 Ecosoc 1He also attended a side event on climate change and had a meeting with the Coordinator of the Major Group of NGOs who are members of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as with the group focused on mining. He also had the chance to visit the Permanent Observer from the Holy See, as well as with those of Vivat International and Caritas International. Moreover, he led a very fruitful meeting with most of the religious who are also working at the UN.

On the 12th of April, he and Fr. Rohan Dominic CMF met with the UN Secretary General, His Excellency António Guterres. Fr. Artur expressed his gratitude to the Secretary General for the opportunity granted to them in meeting him. He shared to the Secretary General about our worldwide missionary efforts and our still young presence at the UN.

At one point of the conversation, he asked about our presence in other UN fora besides ECOSOC. Then the Secretary General encouraged us to keep committed on the global, regional, national and local levels to foster a better world” said Fr. Artur on his Facebook account.

Fr. Artur was very fraternally welcomed and hosted at the Claretian community of Perth Amboy in New Jersey and had some good sharing moments with the members of the community, as well as with the youth and the faithful parishioners of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish. At the end of the week, he had a final meeting with Fr. Rohan who is already one year in representing us at the UN.
