Fr. Javier Travieso Martin, New Claretian Bishop

Rome. Today, January 7, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Fr. José Javier Travieso Martín Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Trujillo – Peru.
The new Auxiliary Bishop of Trujillo (Peru), José Javier Travieso Martín, CMF, was until now collaborator in the Claretian school of Trujillo and Professor in the seminary and in the Catholic University of the same Peruvian city.

Fr. Travieso was born in Don Benito, Badajoz (España), on February 5, 1952. He followed his studies in the Claretian secondary school of the province of Badajoz, and then he entered the minor seminary of the Claretian Missionaries of the Province of Betica.

He studied courses of Philosophy in the Claretian seminary of Loja and of Theology in the Faculty of La Cartuja of the Society of Jesus of Granada. In 1987 he obtained the licentiate in Youth Ministry by the Pontifical Salesian University.
He was ordained priest in Granada on June 25, 1976.

As a priest he was an assistant in the parish of Our Lady of Pillar (Santa Cruz de Tenerife); he collaborated in various schools as chaplain (1976-1977), was pastorally in charge of the school of Don Benito, professor of Religion (1977-1983) and vocations promoter (1983-1984).

In 1988 he was assigned in Peru, where he was in-charge of the Pastoral Ministry in the Claretian School of Lima, Vicar of the parish of the Heart of Mary Magdalena del Mar, and of the parish of Saint Anthony Mary Claret in the city of Lima (1988); Professor, Academic Secretary and Director of Studies of the John XXIII Institute and in-charge of the missions and of the Secretariat of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation in the Claretian Delegation of Peru (1988-3006).

From 2008 he is collaborator of the Catholic School of Trujillo and professor in the seminary in the Catholic University of Trujillo. He has produces some musical CDs and several pamphlets on the life of Saint Anthony Mary Claret and the Claretian spirituality.

On December 19, 2006, he was named by the City Hall, honorary son of Don Benito.”
