“HOPE”, a Claretian initiative born in a formation house

Bangalore, India. In June 1987, the United Nations decided to celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every June 26 to achieve the goal of an international society free from drug abuse.

In June 1988, the Claretian Missionaries of the Major Organism of Bangalore established the Hope Addiction Action Group to help young people cope with drug and alcohol problems. In 1999, they established the Hope Recovery Centre in Belgaum, an 80-bed facility that has treated more than 12,000 addicts.

HOPE has been standing for thirty-three years and has grown into an association with ten projects in various areas such as addiction, HIV, disabilities and disasters and the latest project to deal with the pandemic, the CoronaCare Bangalore project.

We remain grateful to all the people who join us in our mission to give hope to the most vulnerable groups. In the following video you can learn a little more about this initiative that emerged in a formation house of our Congregation:
