Martyrs Day Celebration in Negombo

Nov 9, 2017 | St. Joseph Vaz

Negombo, Sri Lanka. It was a wonderful moment to remember and thank the Lord for the strong faith and the heroic action of our beloved martyrs. As a community the Claretian community in Negombo had two celebrations on our martyrs. At 6:30 pm of the 21st of October, day of the beatification, with the presence of their neighbouring priests, religious and well-wishers, they celebrated a Thanksgiving Vespers Service at St. Claret Minor Seminary, Negombo followed by a dinner. Rev. Fr. Clament Rosairo, the dean of priests in the Negombo deanery presided over the service.

Then on the 22nd of October, they celebrated Mass at St. Sebastian church, Hultsdorp, Colombo, a Claretian parish that consists of Tamil, Sinhala and English-speaking crowd. Since it was a Sunday the whole parish was present. Rev. Fr. Arulraja cmf presided over the celebration.

The faithful were surprised of the heroic act of our martyrs and the last acclamation of our martyrs “praise be Jesus, long live Christ” made the people be rooted deeply in their faith.
