Meeting of the Constitution Revision Commission

Feb 12, 2026 | General Government, General Chapters

Rome, Italy. From 9 to 11 February 2026, the Commission responsible for revising the Constitutions met at the General Curia in Rome. Carlos Sánchez, Carlos Verga, Divin Kisakala, Jude Langeh, Antony Bhyju, Teodoro Bahillo, and Edgardo Guzmán, CMFF participated in the meeting. José Cristo Rey García and Gonzalo Fernández, CMF were unable to attend in person due to commitments made well in advance.

The main objective of the meeting was to prepare a proposal for the revision of the Constitutions, which the General Government will present at the next Meeting of Major Superiors, to be held in Sri Lanka, in preparation for the XXVII General Chapter.

The sessions took place in an atmosphere of prayer, discernment and fraternal dialogue. In light of the founding charism and the current challenges of consecrated life, various methodological proposals were worked on, guiding criteria for the revision were defined, and some points in the constitutional text were identified that could be updated, always seeking greater fidelity to the missionary spirit of the Founder and to the demands of our time.

The meeting concluded on 11 February, a deeply significant date for the Congregation. On this day in 1870, following the appeal personally brought to Rome by Fr. Claret, our Constitutions were approved by Pope Pius IX. Likewise, on 11 February 1982, the Decree of the Congregation for Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life was published, approving the post-conciliar revision of our Constitutions.

As we gratefully remember these milestones, we renew our awareness that they are our “book of life”: a condensed expression of the evangelical experience of our Founding Father and a sure path to making the Gospel of Jesus the centre of our existence in our lives and mission.

We entrust this process to the Lord, asking that his Spirit continue to guide our Congregation on the path of renewal and fidelity in the service of the Church.
