Mission in Malaysia

Brunan, Malaysia. The Province of Chennai is beginning a new mission in Malaysia, in a remote place in this country, called Brunan where there is no regular public transportation or access to the internet. This past May 1st, in the presence of some 5,000 faithful the Church of Tebedu was inaugurated, a mission substation which the Bishop has confided to the Claretian Missionaries.

The Bishop, clergy, and people received the missionaries with great affection, Fathers R. Berchamans and Anup Lakra, concerned that they have everything necessary to live and exercise their ministry.

The missionaries are studying the local language, “Bidayuh”, and are able to communicate with the people, celebrate mass, and preach.

Shown were a warm welcome among the families and tribes with many invitations the missionaries have received during the festival of Gawai, a harvest celebration which has a religious and family gathering dimension.

The missionaries participate in meetings and local clergy retreats. The diocesan vocational team has encouraged them to promote native vocations for the Congregation.
