New Foundation in Cuba

Nov 23, 2010 | Antillas, Parish Ministry

Songo La Maya, Cuba. On September 4, 2010, the foundation of a new Claretian community in Cuba took place in the municipality of Songo La Maya, in the Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba, so much linked to the experience of our Father Founder in his period as an Missionary Archbishop of the same.

During the Consecration of the rebuilt church of San José de La Maya the decree of erection of the new community-Residence formed by Fathers Miguel Fernández Fariñas (Delegate Superior) and Juventino Rodríguez Pérez (Parish Priest), together with the Deacon Heidel Rodríguez Martínez (Econome).

Thus the commitment of the Congregation is fulfilled and a new community is founded, that will remind us of our gratitude and missionary determination on the occasion of the Bicentenary of the birth of Saint Anthony Mary Claret.

The new missionary task that Mons. Dionisio García Ibáñez, Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, offers us is for us to take charge of a new Parish that comprises two municipalities, those of Songo La Maya and the II Frente, with an extension of about 35 km wide by 70 km long, with 132,743 inhabitants, most of them peasants.
