CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES FOR CLARETIAN PASTORAL CARE OF YOUTH AND VOCATIONS
These Notebooks and Appendices offer criteria and guidelines for Claretian youth and vocational pastoral care lived in a network. They are reference texts for the Claretian Family. They help to organize pastoral action in an organic, collaborative, and coherent manner, promoting synergies and shared work in different contexts. The proposal is based on common fundamental criteria and clear strategic axes: the centrality of the young person, the priority of accompaniment, the community dimension, the integration of the vocational aspect into all youth ministry, and the protagonism
of young people. These elements allow for the alignment of the pastoral mission and the strengthening of co-responsible processes of vocational growth.
In addition, the documents present a progressive formation process—awakening, initiating, discerning, deciding, and persevering—that serves as a guide for designing itineraries adapted to the reality of young people. The appendices enrich the proposal with ecclesial and synodal references, in dialogue with Claretian missionary spirituality, offering a pastoral ministry with a charismatic and fully ecclesial identity.

It does not offer ready-made solutions, but rather processes that help to accompany the real lives of young people, their searches, wounds and questions, from a spirituality that burns, embraces and sends forth.

The document is based on biblical and charismatic inspiration, taking as its reference the story of Emmaus and the spiritual experience of Saint Anthony Mary Claret. From there, it proposes a close pastoral ministry, capable of walking alongside young people and helping them to discover the fire of vocation in the midst of their concrete realities, with a strong emphasis on discernment and personal accompaniment.

The proposal is structured around three core elements — encounter (the spark), discernment (the flame) and mission (the burning ember) — and takes a comprehensive and contextualised approach, attentive to current cultural, social and vocational challenges. It values the diversity of vocations and Christian lifestyles, linking them to the Claretian charism and offering keys to generate meaningful processes of discernment for all young people.

A treasure to share is the Vocational Directory of the Claretian Missionaries, the fruit of an extensive synodal process of listening and discernment. It offers a renewed vision of vocational pastoral care, in dialogue with young people, with the Church and with the challenges of today’s world, and expresses the Congregation’s commitment to promoting an authentic Claretian vocational culture.

The Directory articulates a comprehensive understanding of vocation — as a call to life, to following Jesus and to mission — and places vocational pastoral care in close relationship with youth pastoral care. It proposes criteria, attitudes and dynamics that help to accompany vocational processes from a position of closeness, discernment and co-responsibility, in mission shared with the Claretian Family.

With a narrative, appreciative and clearly charismatic style, A Treasure to Share is a pedagogical and pastoral tool, with normative guidelines, at the service of communities, formators, animators and those responsible for PJV. It invites us to walk with young people, to recognise the diversity of vocations and to share with joy the gift received, so that each person can discover their place in God’s plan and in the Claretian mission.
