Safeguarding the minor and the Vulnerable Adult

Apr 2, 2022 | Education Ministry, Institutes of Consecrated Life

Abuja, Nigeria. One of the greatest challenges of the Church in recent years is, without doubt, to safeguard and protect minors and vulnerable adults from different abuses, especially sexual ones. With the help of the Holy Spirit and the effort of many victims, the Church has become more and more aware and sensitive to the rights of minors and vulnerable adults and wants, at all costs, to defend and protect them.

This endeavor has had, so far, different implications, including theological, sociological, psychological, and canonical. It is on the latter, that is the canonical implications, that the Institute of Consecrated Life in Africa (INCLA) centered and reflect on in a seminar that is organized on March 31, 2022, on the topic: “Safeguarding the minor and the vulnerable adult” with Reverend Father Dr. Peter Ikechwuku Okonkwo, CMF, as a speaker, at the Institute of Consecrated Life.

On that same occasion, the Institute had the privilege to welcome His Excellency, Doctor Ignatius Ayau Kagaima, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Abuja, who presided over the opening Mass of the third Cycle of the Certificate/Diploma Program on Basic Theology, Formation of Formators and Spiritual Direction of the Institute and blessed, at the same occasion, the tabernacle of the community chapel.
