Shared Mission in Villa Felicidad

Feb 26, 2013 | Parish Ministry, San José del Sur

Montevideo, Uruguay. The Claretian Missionaries of the Province of San José del Sur are in charge of the parish of St. Anthony Mary Claret in Progreso, 28 km from Montevideo, Uruguay.

In Villa Felicidad, one of the neighborhoods on the outskirts, an interesting missionary experience was developed from January 7-12, 2013.

The missionary team was made-up of members of the Parish of Montevideo-Inca, coordinated by Fr. Cristian Ceballos, CMF joined by two Claretian seminarians who traveled from Argentina. Under the theme “FElicidad comienza con FE y la hacemos crecer entre todos” [Happiness begins with FAITH and we have to grow it among everyone] the team proposed three objectives: 1) Family visits. 2) Workshop on the Spoken Reading of the Word of God. 3) Athletic activities for boys and girls.

The visits served to feel the warmth of the people, their simplicity and openness, which revealed their personal and community needs. This called for a greater presence among those responsible for the ministry who wanted to improve things among young people and “boys”, but didn’t know how to do it alone.

Those who participated in the Spoken Reading of the Word” workshop were enthusiastic, participative, and committed to continue in this. The presence of the Claretian seminarians was very clear, precise, and straight-forward; surely a great support for this small community.

The sporting activity attracted many participants, especially for the children who formed a football team.

The mission ended on Saturday, January 12th with a Eucharistic celebration and barbecue, with various artistic presentations, dances, and music for all tastes.
