The Bishop of Barbastro Presides at the 75th Anniversary Closing Mass

Barbastro, Spain. Msgr. Alfonso Milián, Bishop of the Diocese of Barbastro- Monzón, presided in the Cathedral at the solemn Closing Mass of the 75th Anniversary of the Claretian Martyrs. The Mass was broadcast live on TVE Channel 2 during its program: “The Day of the Lord.”

Accompanying the Bishop was a large group of Claretians, among them Fr. Manuel Tamargo, Provincial of Santiago, Maxim Muñoz, Provincial of Catalunya, Fr. Vicente Pecharromán, General Postulator, Fr. Jorge M. Ayala, Vicepostulator of Santiago, and various others. Significant was the participation of diocesan and religious priest from various congregations, and numerous faithful who filled this beautiful church.

Bishop Alfonso Milián dedicated his homily to the “uneraseable memory of the Claretian Martyrs” and recalled the words of Blessed Jihn Paul II who called them the “Martyr-Seminary” during the homily given at their beatification ceremony.

The bishop referred to them as “admirable young men” and through their memory also recalled “all the martyrs, religious, and laity” of the Diocese.
