The future of the Congregation in Africa

May 9, 2010 | ACLA, West Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria. On May 5, the ACLA encounter, convoked by the General Government and organized by the Delegation of WEST Nigeria began. The Major Superiors and Coordinators of the Claretian Organisms and Missions of Africa are gathered together with Fr. General and four members of his Government.

The encounter started with the welcome words of Fr. Henry Omonisaye, Superior of the Delegation. Then Fr. General addressed the 25 participating Claretians, stressing the importance of this Claretian encounter of Africa as a space of dialogue and discernment that cannot be ignored by the Congregation or by the Church. He encouraged us to continue helping the African people to grow in the Gospel values and to construct a Church as “God’s family.”

In the light of the XXIV General Chapter, he exhorted us to revive the fire by strengthening the spirituality and the fraternal life; to take care of the initial and on-going formation; to revise our organization. Then, after seeing some organizational aspects of the encounter, each Organism and Mission gave a brief report of its history, its assimilation of the General Chapter, and the challenges of the formation, the mission and the economy.
