The ‘Jaime del Amo’ Major School Rewards the Work of Solidarity of Religious Sisters

May 28, 2012 | Education Ministry, Santiago

Madrid, Spain. One of the problems that most concerns the European Church is the creation of avenues to impart the Gospel to the youth. One of these are the major university schools.

In Madrid, more than three-hundred youth reside in the “Alcala’ and ‘Jaime del Amo’ Schools conducted by the Claretians of the Province of Santiago. The school community is converted into a home during this crucial phase of their lives.

Last Sunday the youth of the ‘Colegio Mayor Jaime del Amo’ closed their school year and awarded with great distinction: the “award of honor” to the Tertiary Capuchin Sisters who, in close collaboration with Caritas and a nearby parish, conduct a food pantry which helps more than three-hundred persons daily and in which a good number of the students and former students serve as volunteers.

In this way one of the principal goals of the educational program of the center is made into realty. The Director of the School, Fr. Fernando Torres, invited the youth to have concern for the poor and justice so that it may influence their professional life in the future.
