XXVI GC : One cannot be a Claretian as if the poor did not exist (MS 49) (August 24, 2021)

Aug 25, 2021 | Congregation, General Chapters, Noticeboard, XXVI General Chapter

Nemi, Italy. August 24, 2021. Today we welcomed Fr. Pius Thuruthiyil (Northeast India) and Fr. Lawrence V. (Kolkata) who joined the Chapter Hall.

From the celebration of the Eucharist in the morning, we dedicated the whole day to deepen one of the two themes in which, according to the Chapter President, we need to raise awareness and grow at the congregational level: Solidarity and Mission Teamwork (SOMI). For this purpose, we rely on the online presence of the Fr. Vincent Anesthasiar (Coordinator of the General Secretariat of JPIC), Fr. Lord Winner (Procurator General of Missions) and Fr. Rohan Dominic CMFF (Coordinator of the Claretian Team at the UN) who work in coordination with Fr. Artur Teixeira, General Prefect of Apostolate, Fr. Artur Teixeira, General Prefect of Apostolate. The other theme, which we will address tomorrow, is that of communication.

The first session was dedicated to the four areas/objectives of JPIC: spirituality, formation, witness of life and mission and the service of animation. The second session was dedicated to the structure and way of working of the Claretian team at the UN with its four areas of attention: ecology/climate change, indigenous peoples/mining, migrants/refugees and peace and reconciliation processes; as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN agenda for 2030. The third session focused on the structure and proposals of the General Mission Procure and everything that has to do with development projects in the various Organisms of the Congregation. After each of the presentations there was space for dialogue between the speakers and the capitulars and that is what the fourth session of the day consisted of: a dialogue to deepen other aspects of these ministries.

At the end of the day, we emphasized the missionary imprint of our work in solidarity and mission, the importance of networking with other people and social and religious organizations and the far-reaching commitment that this task entails. We also highlight the commitment of all the Claretian missionaries involved in these teams, their perseverance in learning, in reading, in working as a team and in making this proposal available to all with passion and commitment, as well as the good work of the General Prefect of Apostolate. We realize that we are growing and taking dimension of what this commitment born of the Gospel means, free of any kind of ideology, in favor of a world of brothers and sisters.
