*279.- “The times were so troubled that I not only had to avoid talking politics, but also I had to avoid calling the service I was holding a “mission.” I had to call it, instead, a “novena” in honor of All Souls, or Our Lady of the Rosary, or the Blessed Sacrament, or a saint, so as not to upset the constitutionalists,”

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WEAKNESSES

In the Gospel we find this paragraph which is presented to us as very relevant, ‘Look, I send you out like sheep among wolves. You must be as clever as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard with people, for they will hand you over to their courts and they will flog you in their synagogues. You will be brought to trial before rulers and kings because of me, so you may witness to them and to the pagans. But when you are arrested, do not worry about what you are to say, or how you are to say it; when the hour comes you will be given what you are to say. For it is not you who will speak, but the Spirit of the Father in you.’ (Mt. 10: 16-20)
On numerous occasions we find ourselves with people or groups that display total disinterest for the Christian proclamation or do not even respect the least religious gesture. We must aspire, in the first place, to liberty. We believe in building a society where rights are respected and one of them is the right to freedom to express one’s own beliefs. The proclamation of the Christian faith in our personal attitudes and in some specific activities must not been seen as an attack on the rights of others to do the same with their beliefs.
Our life of faith has to be, above all else, a proposition because faith is not demonstrated but rather shown. Seeing our attitudes, gestures and words others will ask, what brings these people to live this way? Moreover, the wisdom of which the Gospel speaks is not an attitude of pretence but rather of knowing how to be timely in the way of practicing the faith and proclaiming it. We do not seek to capture followers like a sect does but rather, convinced by that which fulfils and inspires us, we want to live it so intensely that it infects others.
What is the vitality level of my faith? Have I experienced an occasion when my enthusiasm for my faith has awoken questions in those around me?
