“Claret, A Giant Spirit”: 75th Anniversary of the Canonization

May 6, 2025 | St. Anthony Mary Claret

In this year 2025, the Claretian Missionaries joyfully celebrate the 75th anniversary of the canonization of our Founder, Saint Anthony Mary Claret, declared a saint by Pope Pius XII on May 7, 1950. He was recognized as a “giant in spirit” for his life fully dedicated to God and to evangelization.

From a young age, Claret felt called to holiness and allowed himself to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. His deep prayer life, love for the Word of God, devotion to Mary, and missionary zeal were the foundation of a life consecrated to proclaiming the Gospel. His holiness was not static but a journey of constant conversion, humility, and service.

Inspired by his witness and by Pope Francis’ exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate, we renew our commitment to missionary holiness. Like Claret, we want to be shaped by God and live the Gospel with passion, always seeking God’s will in our daily lives.

May this celebration inspire us to respond generously to the universal call to holiness, following the example of our Founder—a tireless missionary and faithful witness of God’s love.
