Diaconate Ordination in Sri Lanka

Sep 21, 2021 | Noticeboard, Ordinations, St. Joseph Vaz

Kandy, Sri Lanka. Students Kirubanantharajah Annroy Aravinth CMF and Thevapalan Patrick Johnson CMF, from St. Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation were ordained to the diaconate on 9th of September 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Claret Nivas, Kandy, by Most Rev. Dr. Winston Fernando, SSS the Bishop of Badulla. Bishop centered his homily on the ministry of deacons and relationship with the people of God. He strongly recommended the virtues of community life: community prayer, eating together; common table, obedience to superiors, chastity, and evangelical poverty.

Due to the current situation of the country only a few Claretians and some family members of the deacons were present to grace the occasion. Others were united in prayer. The new deacons had their philosophical studies at St. Francis Xavier’s Seminary, Jaffna, and their theological studies at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, Ampitiya.
