Vic, Spain. The presentation of a fundamental book on Claret, entitled in Spanish “Las misiones populares del Padre Claret en Cataluña entre 1840 y 1850. Un camino de evangelización en tiempos de crisis” (The Popular Missions of Father Claret between 1840 and 1850: A Way of Evangelization in Times of Crisis) took place in the evening of November 27, 2019 at the Roman Temple in the City of Vic. Author Fr. Carlos Sanchez Miranda, CMF, Director of the Claretian Spirituality Center (CESC) presented the book, fruit of his doctoral dissertation at the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid, the first volume of the “Urget” collection dedicated to the studies on the figure of St. Anthony Mary Claret (1807 – 1870), his life, mission, text and context. It is published under Editorial Claret in Barcelona (2019), with 477 pages.

Along with the author in the presidential table were Dr. Jordi Figuerola, historian and professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, who presented the historical, political, social and ecclesiastical context of Spain during the time of Claret; Mn. Josep Maria Riba, Director of the Episcopal Museum of Vic, who gave a discourse on the present social and ecclesial situation; and Fr. Ricard Costa-Jussà, CMF, Provincial Superior of Catalunya who aside from giving support, addressed the spectators and affirmed the importance of the book in our Congregation.

The book contains a systematic and exhaustive study, the result of several years of patient and thorough research in libraries and episcopal, parochial and civil archives throughout Catalonia in which Claret carried out his activities as a missionary and founder of the Congregation of Missionaries, Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
