Mar 24, 2011 | Bética, Fernan-Seguenza-Tarragona, Martyrs of Barbastro

Sevilla, Spain. The month of August 2011 celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of more than 260 Claretian Missionaries at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War (1936)
Barbastro, Cervera, Fernán Caballero, are names that echo in the congregational landscape. Some of these martyrs have now been officially recognized as such by ecclesiastical authorities and the cause of others is in process.

From this large group, 46 of the martyrs were members of the Province of Betica. To honor them, the Province has recently published some materials on the theme: “Mártires por la fe, maestros en fidelidad” (“Martyrs for the Faith, Teachers in Fidelity”). It is part of the new edition of the historical review of the Province, as well as a guide for community retreats, including holy cards with a prayer and posters which show two images, works of the famous Spanish painter, Juan Palomo Reina.
