Altamura, Italy. Altamura, Italy. L’altra faccia dell’Africa (The Other Face of Africa) is a cultural association born in Altamura in January of 2009 as a work of the Claretian Missionaries of the Italian Delegation distinguished by their missionary presence in Gabon. Its principal promoter is Fr. Gustavo Pez, CMF.

The intent of the association is to dispel ignorance on the part of the majority of people about Africa: that Africa is not only poor and underdeveloped, but that it is also a land of universal values like love, happiness, peace, the forces by which they can reach their own dreams, be they great or small.

Africa is the symbol of the encounter and the knowledge of diversity, without prejudice, of their own culture and beliefs.

The association organizes various events and activities (courses on music, language, sculpture, painting, cinema forums) with those who seek to raise funds for the Gabon mission and, on occasion, promote integration.

Other activities of the organization are: the “La Esperanza (Hope)” Center for problems related to general dependencies (drug, alcohol, gambling…) and a workshop of experimental theatre.

For the year 2010 the association proposed and was able to reach its objective: “Education Gabon” thanks to those who raised the necessary funds to form and support two teachers. (Pictures)
