Fukuoka, Japan. Young Catholics from Japan, Macau, and Taiwan gathered at the Fukuoka Catholic Seminary from 21–25 August 2026 for the East Asia Delegation Claret Way. Guided by the theme, “Rooted in Christ’s Love, We Rise with Courage,” the five-day encounter brought together 26 young delegates and eight facilitators for prayer, formation, fellowship, and missionary reflection.
The program combined spiritual formation with activities designed to strengthen community and encourage cross-cultural encounter. Each day included prayer, talks, group exercises, and team challenges. The “Amazing Race” activity became an opportunity to reflect on God’s grace accompanying people through unexpected obstacles, shared struggles, and moments of renewal.
Peace-building workshops also provided space for dialogue among participants from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, helping them deepen mutual understanding and friendship.
A contemplative evening of Taizé prayer and the Sacrament of Reconciliation offered participants a special moment for silence, personal encounter with God, and spiritual renewal.
The young people also made a pilgrimage to historical Catholic and peace sites in Nagasaki. Visiting places marked by suffering, perseverance, and enduring faith, they reflected on peace, resilience, and their calling to become instruments of hope in their communities.
The Eucharist remained at the heart of the gathering. Most Rev. Joseph Abella, CMF, Bishop of the Diocese of Fukuoka, encouraged the participants to root their identity firmly in God’s love as they face the challenges of contemporary life. Fr. Ken Masuda, CMF, Delegation Youth Coordinator, invited them to bring the fire of faith back to their local communities.
In a concluding reflection on mission, Delegation Superior Fr. Jijo Kandamkulathy, CMF, encouraged the youth to examine the values that guide their choices and to build their lives firmly on Christ.
The gathering concluded with a mission-sending rite, sending the 26 young participants back to Japan, Macau, and Taiwan with renewed courage to live their faith and serve others as witnesses of Christ’s love.
