Ngong, Kenya. In the celebratory ambiance of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on the 15th August 2020, ten novices made their First Profession in St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation. The celebration took place at St. Ann Kibiko Parish in the Diocese of Ngong – Kenya. The Major Superior, Fr. John Francis D., CMF, was the main celebrant. Few Claretian priests and some priests from other religious congregations also concelebrated.
This group of newly professed missionaries in Kenya is a reflection of the rich multi and intercultural face of our Congregation. Five of these young men are from St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation – Maelo Isaac, Zephrine Superius, Ooko Thomas Owino, Wangutusi Raphael, Gastor Benedict Kimario, CMFF. Two of them are from Cameroun Independent Delegation – Victory Ngwame Tah, Hugues Rostan Igor Limaleba, CMFF. Another two are from the Province of Brasil – Geremias Armando Carlos, Rito Azevedo Armando, CMFF. And one from Fátima Province – Sayira Austin, CMF.
Amid the fear caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Major Superior urged the faithful to draw strength from the message of hope presented through the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To the newly professed missionaries, he highlighted the significance of the 150th anniversary of our Father Founder as an example of how fidelity to the evangelical counsel can have an enduring and transgenerational positive impact.
Due to the restriction proper to COVID-19 health guidelines, the participation of the faithful was also limited. This situation, however, did not diminish the beauty and joy of the celebration.
