Trujillo, Peru. The Claretian Team at the United Nations, represented by Fr. Henry Ramírez Soler, CMF, participated in ClaretMUN 2026 on September 11–12, 2026 bringing together secondary school students from the Claretian schools of Trujillo, Huancayo, and Lima for an experience of dialogue, diplomacy, and formation in global citizenship.
Following the event, Fr. Henry Ramírez Soler, CMF, accompanied formation and encounter activities at the Claretian schools in Huancayo on September 13–14 and Lima on September 15, 2026.
ClaretMUN follows the Model United Nations methodology, through which students simulate the work and decision-making processes of the United Nations. While Model UN conferences are independently organized and are not official UN programmes, they help young people deepen their understanding of multilateralism, international cooperation, global challenges, and the work of the United Nations.
Organized into five committees—DISEC, UNHCR, UNEP, SPECPOL, and UNOOSA—the students addressed issues related to peace and security, forced displacement, environmental protection, decolonization, and emerging challenges in outer space.
Through debates, negotiations, and the preparation of resolutions, participants strengthened skills in public speaking, critical thinking, diplomacy, teamwork, and consensus-building. More importantly, the experience encouraged them to engage with global realities as young people capable of listening to different perspectives, proposing alternatives, and contributing to a more just, peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable world.
For the Claretian Team at the United Nations, ClaretMUN also highlighted the importance of connecting the education of young people with the wider Claretian commitment to justice, peace, human dignity, and care for our Common Home. Inspired by Gospel values and Claretian spirituality, such initiatives can help young people recognize their voice and responsibility in the transformation of society.
Building on similar Model United Nations initiatives already taking place in Claretian schools worldwide, the Claretian Team at the United Nations will seek to foster greater exchange and collaboration among schools. The aim is to create bridges between local experiences and global advocacy, enabling the perspectives and proposals of young people to contribute to the Claretian mission for a better world and a sustainable planet.
