May 13, 2026 | México, Claretian Martyrs

Silao, Mexico. On April 25, 2026, the Claretian Missionaries of the Province of Mexico inaugurated the Jubilee Year of the Martyrs of San Joaquín (2026–2027), marking the final year before the centenary of the martyrdom of Fr. José Trinidad Rangel, Fr. Andrés Solá Molist, CMF, and the layman Leonardo Pérez Larios, who gave their lives in witness to the Gospel in 1927.

The celebration took place at the foothills of Cerro del Cubilete, near the Sanctuary of Santa María Reina de los Mártires in Silao, Guanajuato, bringing together Claretian missionaries, diocesan clergy, lay faithful, and young people from various communities and regions of Mexico.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Archbishop Jaime Calderón Calderón of León and concelebrated by diocesan and Claretian priests, including Fr. Ernesto Mejía Mejía, CMF, Provincial Superior of Mexico, together with members of the Provincial Government.

In his homily, Archbishop Calderón highlighted the heroic witness and missionary spirit of the martyrs, encouraging the faithful to continue walking together in faith, memory, and missionary commitment.

The gathering also included visits to the Chapel of the Martyrs, a youth Eucharistic vigil at the San Joaquín ranch, and the traditional commemorative Mass celebrated the following day at the site of the martyrdom.

The organising commission expressed gratitude to all who participated in the inauguration and invited the Claretian family and faithful to join the activities planned throughout the Jubilee Year as preparation for the centenary celebration in 2027.
