Oyem, Gabon. The Claretian Missionaries of the Delegation Padre Xifré officially launched the Jubilee Year to celebrate their 50 years of presence in Gabon on December 2, 2023, at the Cathedral of Oyem in Gabon. The opening of the Jubilee Year took place during the Eucharistic Celebration, which was presided over by Msgr Jean-Vincent Ondo Eyene, Bishop of Oyem, along with Fr. Félix Obaga Eworo Bilogo, CMF, Major Superior of Padre Xifré Independent Delegation. Some students and priests who had traveled from Franceville and Libreville (Gabon), Mongomo, and Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) were also present. Fr. Théodore Ametrogbo Komlanvi, CMF, the representative of the Major Superior in Gabon, briefly summarized the history of the Claretian Mission in Gabon, from its founding to the present, with a focus on its constant goal of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the style of Saint Anthony Mary.

During this Eucharist, two members of the Delegation were ordained into different orders. Student Juan Eto’ho Osa Avomo, CMF, received diaconal ordination, while deacon Boris Jonathan Mba Obame, CMF, was ordained as a priest. The ceremony was attended by the biological families of the two missionaries from Micomiseng in Equatorial Guinea, as well as the city of Oyem, Bitam, and neighboring villages. The diocesan clergy, religious and Christian faithful were also present, which added to the festive atmosphere of the day. Bishop Jean-Vincent emphasized the importance of missionary witness during his homily, and the need to remain faithful to commitments despite the trials and difficulties that may arise within the Congregation.

The ceremony ended with a fraternal meal, marking the conclusion of the day.

We thank God for 50 years of Claretian presence in Gabon. We pray for our newly ordained brothers and their fruitful missionary work in His vineyard.
