The Word of God at the Heart of our Mission

Jan 26, 2024 | Bible Ministry, Cameroun

Yaoundé, Cameroon. Between Sunday the 14th and Sunday the 21st of January 2024, all Claretian Missionaries in Cameroon celebrated Bible Week and the Sunday of the Word of God along with the entire Congregation. This year’s celebration witnessed both missionaries and laity’s active participation and engagement in all their parishes and mission posts.

The week began with the enthronement of the Bible in every community. The event included various activities such as lectio divina, prayers guided by biblical themes, educative conferences, and Bible quizzes in parishes, schools, and seminaries.

The Bible Week concluded with the Sunday of the Word of God, which also marked the end of the canonical visit of Fr. Jude Langeh, CMF, the Cameroun Independent Delegation Major Superior, to the St. Charles Lwanga parish community. During Mass with the brothers and lay faithful, Fr. Jude emphasized the importance of the Word of God in our lives as Christians. He stressed that the Word of God should be at the very center of all we do as children of God.

During the Mass, the Scriptura Project of 2023 was concluded and the official launch of the 2024 edition was announced. For the last two years, the Claretian Biblical apostolate in Cameroon has been organizing a Bible-based competition called Scriptura. The project aims to introduce many people to the Word of God by encouraging them to pray with the Bible, copy it, and stand a chance of winning amazing prizes. During the prize-giving ceremony for the 2023 edition, Fr. Jude urged the winners to continue making the Word of God the center of their lives. He expressed his hope that all Claretian communities in the delegation would encourage Christians to participate in this project, as he believes that the Word of God can transform society.

Messages of joyful celebration concluded the Bible Week from every part of the delegation, from Sakje in the North to Nkol-Bikok in the Center, from Upper Mbot in the North-West to Munyenge in the South-West.
