Kolkata, India. The Quinquennium for the young Claretian Missionaries of the Western Conference of the Claretian Missionaries of Asia (ASCLA West) began officially on December 1, 2023, at Divya Darshan Renewal Centre in Kolkata. The Independent Delegation of Kolkata hosted the event and witnessed the participation of 69 young Claretian missionaries from India and Sri Lanka. The event concluded on December 5, 2023.
At the beginning of the event, Fr. Ponson Topo, CMF, read the official message and greeting from the host Major Superior of Kolkata, Fr. Anthony Bhyju, CMF. Afterward, greetings were read from all the Major Superiors of ASCLA West. The Quinquennium, led by Fr Antony L, CMF, the Prefect of Formation of the Kolkata Delegation, focused on the missionary life in the Claretian way and was beneficial to all participants. Fr. Vincent Anes, CMF, and Fr Antony L, CMF, personally guided the young missionaries through thought-provoking reflections and sharing throughout the ongoing formation. The missionaries actively participated in joint sessions, group sharing, report presentations, prayers, and recreation. Fr Antony Paul, the parish priest of Barrackpore Parish in Kolkata, gave a talk that enlightened and challenged the gathering to lead a holy life.
On the final day of the gathering, the participants had a wonderful time visiting various places in Kolkata, such as Mother House (where St. Mother Teresa’s tomb is located), the Indian Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Victoria Memorial, and Eco Park. The quinquennium concluded with a heartfelt expression of gratitude to God and the host organization, particularly Fr. Antony L., CMF.
