Biblical Formation of Lay People

Sep 7, 2019 | Bible Ministry, Brasil

São Miguel do Guaporé, Brazil. The parish of São Miguel do Guaporé of the Province of Brasil in the Brazilian state of Rondônia has had the tradition of forming lay people for the work of evangelization. This has become indispensable because the parish is made up of 52 communities. There are two Claretian Missionaries working in this parish with two sisters of the Missionary Sisters of the Claretian Institute (MIC) and two permanent deacons of the Diocese. These personnel in the parish are grossly in adequate for the mission of the parish. It is also of interest to know that one of the communities is about 50 km away from the Parish Church.

The collaboration of the lay people is indispensable in this circumstance and the parish has taken it as its main modus operandi. The parish organizes a monthly Biblical formation for all the Eucharistic and community leaders in order to better prepare them for this ministry. The formation of this month was on September 5, 2019 in two batches – morning and evening of about 170 participants from almost all the communities.

This very important formation program is driven by our option for the multiplication of evangelizers and the centrality of the Word of God to all our pastoral ministry. This month’s formation was witnessed by Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF who is currently conducting the General Canonical Visit to the Province of Brasil together with Fr. Marcos Loro, CMF who is accompanying him in this visit.
