Owerri, Nigeria. Claretian University of Nigeria (CUN) has been granted a permanent license by the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking a major milestone in its institutional growth. The license was presented to the Board of Trustees Chairman, Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, General Consultor, during the 5th Board of Trustees Meeting held on April 21–22, 2026, following a successful campus inspection.
“This license is not just a regulatory approval; it is a public affirmation that Claretian University belongs among Nigeria’s most credible academic institutions,” Fr. Henry Omonisaye, CMF, stated.
All academic programmes submitted for accreditation were approved. The Board of Trustees and Governing Council also agreed to review tuition fees in light of economic realities while safeguarding access for low-income students, and to strengthen academic discipline and examination integrity.
A strategic commission, chaired by Prof. Izu Marcel Onyeocha, CMF, was established to develop a 25-year growth plan focused on research, academic continuity, and international collaboration.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitment to building a university faithful to its Claretian identity, academically sound, and dedicated to service.
