Zamora, Spain. For 110 years (1902) the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have been established in the city of Zamora, one of the capitals of the ancient Spanish Kingdom of León which is now part of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León. The city currently has 65,000 inhabitants.
Initially, the Claretians were devoted to the Ministry of the Word in the preaching and popular missions (consisting of more than a thousand). In 1938 the Congregation extended its apostolic service to education. Since then the Missionaries have served the Word in caring for children, adolescents, young people, and their families through the School of the Heart of Mary, one of the more renown and prestigious in the city.
The educational community of the School has held for the third year the family week, an initiative which brings together more and more young students and their families, becoming a beautiful showcase of happy coexistence among the various generations.
The program has dedicated times for sport, fiesta, reflection, games, and prayer. The Laity-Family Team of the Province of Santiago set forth guidelines and initiatives to help live the faith as a family.
A Grandparents Day was also held. Many of them came to accompany their grandchildren, become acquainted with their classrooms and spaces for games, sharing some songs… Not a few of the nearly 900 current students of the school are children and grandchildren of former Alumni!
The week took his final grand finale on Sunday the 13th, Mother’s Day. The beautiful church of San Andrés, located in the Center of the city, hosted the celebration of the Eucharist, prepared by those responsible for the Children’s Oratory, an activity that is becoming more-and-more one of the axes of school life.
The success of the week it would be inexplicable without the generous commitment of the five Missionaries who form the community this year and nearly a hundred professors and employees of the School.
