Nekede, Nigeria. The Retreat House of the Claretians in Nekede, Owerri Imo State, caught fire and razed down Thursday, 19 March 2020.
The fire, which started from one of the rooms occupied by the Director of the Retreat House, Fr. Raphael Uzoekwe, CMF, quickly spread to the other parts of the one-story building. The probable cause may be a power surge. The students tried their best to put out the inferno but to no avail. The Federal Fire Service later arrived to put out the fire, but by then, the raging flames consumed already most of the building.
No lives were lost. Nevertheless, property worth millions of Naira lost in the fire incident.
